LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST

1.This contest is designated as the State FFA Contest and as a 4-H contest for those enrolled as 4-H members.

2. FFA participants are to register through their Advisor by the deadline. The contest will adhere to FFA rules and standards. FFA advisors will be expected to assume a duty at the time of registration and lineup.

3. 4-H participants may enter through Jr. Show’s ShoWorks entry software at juniorshow.org by April 1 of the current year.

4. Classes and rotation time will be announced at the beginning of the event.

5. 4-H only – A leader or representative must pick up entire Club judging packet when contestants assemble prior to the event.

6. Awards will be given to the top two judges in each 4-H division age group.

7. Top eight FFA teams to receive banners.

MEATS JUDGING CONTEST

  • This contest is open to 4-H and FFA members eligible to participate in the Junior Livestock Show of Spokane.

  • Participants may enter the day of the event.

  • Classes and rotation time will be announced at the beginning of the event.

  • Awards will be given to the top two judges in each division

  • Top three FFA teams to receive banners.

4-H DEMONSTRATIONS & FFA PUBLIC / CREED SPEAKING

1. Open to any 4-H or FFA member enrolled in a livestock project. All exhibitors are eligible and encouraged to participate as well as other 4-H and FFA members who are enrolled in livestock projects.

2. All participants must be pre-registered at juniorshow.org by April 1.

3. The demonstration or illustrated talk will be LIMITED to beef, sheep, swine or goat topics, including any aspect of raising or selling livestock, coinciding with the Jr. Show. Example: record books, pre-selling animals, educational posters, etc.

4. There will be a maximum of 30 minutes scheduled for each demonstrator. This includes setting up, giving the demonstration, questions, comments by judges and removing demonstration equipment. Minimum speaking time (not including questions) to qualify for a premium will be: 4-H Juniors, 3-8 minutes; 4-H Intermediates, 5-15 minutes; 4-H Seniors, 8-20 minutes. FFA members will have 6-8 minutes for prepared speeches. 

5. Power point presentations will be acceptable for 4-H exhibitors, with the exhibitor to provide the equipment necessary unless coordinated with the superintendent.

6. The superintendents will communicate with registered participants on time and location details.

7. Cooperative Extension Bulletin C430 “4-H Demonstration Evaluation” will be used for judging all demonstrations.

8. FFA guidelines will govern Public Speaking and Creed competitions. The Creed may be presented in English or Spanish.

9. All participants should report to the superintendent as soon as they arrive.

10. Awards and premium points will be: Blue – 50; Red – 40; White – 30; Awards will be presented to the 1st and 2nd placing individuals in all divisions.

AG MECHANICS CONTEST

1. Entries must be completed online at juniorshow.org by April 1 and dropped off at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 pm.

CONTEST RULES

1. This competition is open to any 4-H or FFA exhibitor eligible to participate in the Junior Livestock

Show of Spokane.

2. Projects must have been completed during the current school year.

3. Exhibitors may donate their item to be auctioned at the 2027 Junior Show Benefit Auction with proceeds going to the Junior Show.

4. If not donated to Junior Show, items are to be picked up between 5 pm on Friday and no later than 5 pm on Saturday of the Show week.

Premium awards will be made to exhibitors on the basis of points earned in each ribbon group. A monetary value will be given for each point awarded as follows:

Blue Red White

Ornamental Welding/Cutting Project 30 20 10

Small Metal or Wood Project 20 10 5

Large Metal or Wood Project 30 20 10

Awards to be provided by the Junior Livestock Show of Spokane.

CATTLE TEAM FITTING CONTEST

The Team Fitting Contest challenges youth to compete as a four-person team to get a beef show animal ready for the ring. The contest is team oriented, and each team must compete within the parameters of fitting, grooming, animal care, and showmanship techniques. The team should consist of an FFA member, a Senior 4-H member, an Intermediate 4-H member, and a Junior 4-H member. Teams will be randomly selected. Registration and further announcements will be conducted at the show.

SALES CONTEST

The Sales contest allows youth exhibitors to gain experience and skills essential to the production and marketing of ag products. The Washington State FFA Sales product will be used and two sales calls will be conducted by each participant. Scoring will follow the state rubric. Ag Instructors will be provided a registration link with a April 1 deadline to submit.

VET SCIENCE CONTEST

The veterinary science event aims to promote college and career readiness by developing students' technical knowledge and practical skills in veterinary science. The contest will consist of 50 ID-related questions and 50 General knowledge/math practicum questions.

FOOD PRODUCTS & PROCESSING

New in 2026! This event aims to expose Jr High and younger students to components of career development events in the food and processing pathway.  The contest will consist of meat and cheese identification, aromas, and customer complaint letter.
